The devastating issue of domestic violence has recently risen to the forefront. But many people still believe it does not happen, particularly in suburban households. That is a myth. Domestic Violence crosses all cultural, socio-economic and racial lines. Recognizing that a comprehensive response was necessary, the Rachel Coalition was founded by the MetroWest Jewish community in January, 1997 to provide services for victims of domestic violence.

WomenRising is the foremost community based organization for women in Hudson County. Governed and managed by women, WomenRising assists women and their families to achieve self sufficiency and live safe, fulfilling and productive lives, through social services, economic development and advocacy services.

VLJ was founded in 2001 by a group of attorneys in New Jersey concerned about the limited availability of free legal resources to the poor. VLJ is a comprehensive pro bono program meeting the needs of the poor solely through the efforts of volunteer attorneys throughout New Jersey. To date, VLJ volunteers have assisted thousands of indigent persons in the community with critical legal matters such as divorce, domestic violence, special education issues, bankruptcy, evictions and more.

Founded in 1973, Education Law Center (ELC) advocates on behalf of public school children for access to an equal and adequate education under state and federal laws. ELC's work is based on a core value: if given the opportunity, all children can achieve high academic standards to prepare them for citizenship and to compete in the economy. ELC focuses on improving public education for disadvantaged children, and children with disabilities and other special needs. ELC uses a wide variety of strategies, including public education and engagement, policy initiatives, research, communications and, as a last resort, legal action.
